"Drosophila Fringe (D-Fng) was first identified because of its role in positioning Notch activation in specialized boundary cells along the dorsal–ventral compartment border of the wing. Subsequently, D-Fng and its three vertebrate homologues, Lunatic Fringe (Lfng), Manic Fringe ( Mfng) and Radical Fringe (Rfng),"

I'm sure she forgives them.

Although I'm not entirely satisfied, the isoflex was sort of ok. Now the leatherwork!

Also I have been offered an upgrade to Postdoctoral Researcher! My three year quest post PhD is ended by sheer bloody-minded tenacity! For science!

It goeth not well. It doth dribble. This displeases me.

Many things have displeased me of late.

Apparently a colleague of a friend both of whom work in an establishment I frequent described me as a "statuesque amazon"

Also my sardonic other half is deeply engaged in planning a super-secret LARP with another friend which will involve the party being an anti-Cthulhoid horrors investigatory team working for a shadowy conspiracy. He makes the words "insanity system" sound so beautifully sexy. I cannot wait for them to devise it fully so I can make a character*. He won't tell me more than the basics but he keeps burying his head in the sourcebooks of various systems and asking his friends about skill trees.

*And the costume for the character. My dressmaking skills have not been used for a while. Although first I wish to construct a larpsafe laytex bowie knife+, as my poor Laytexsmith skills have not been used for years now.

+ For this, http://5000rem.com/ which a local madman runs and we are plotting characters for. The characters will be Terribly Nice Couple: James Mason and Julie Andrews with Waterboarding.

Trolling again.

Thank goodness the human version is SAMD4A so I don't end up snickering while reading the papers.

A man who is extremely good at leatherwork and does it as a business liked some of my leatherwork ^_^

Also the UK Labour party leadership contest has got weird. There's actually a left-wing anti-war pro-immigration anti-poverty gent among the candidates who got through. I'm confused. He's like the Labour party's Owain Glydwyr - kinda old, but still hugely badass and principled.

These two are related because both gentlemen can be considered to be named "Jez".

I didn't know it was possible to spend hours drumming with orcs while their chieftains fought for supremacy in a pit constructed of driftwood.

That shit was good....

Curiously,

I finally saw Cyrano de Bergerac (the play) performed this last weekend, the french translated really rather well by the author of "a Clockwork Orange"

I repent my posts on this journal some time ago where I compared someone to Roxanne. I feel I have insulted Roxanne's intelligence.

Reading about embryonic development pathways....

"In turn, TGFβ stimulation with Smad activation leads to transcription of Snail 1 and 2 (the latter formerly known as Slug)"

Like with the Hyracotherium/Eohippus issue - previous name much better, stupid precedence.

Today I have been released once again upon E. coli cloning work. Or at least I made up some growth media for the first time in about five years. Once I have some glycerol I will once again be able to use DNA like lego.*

Luciferase is still my favourite DNA reporter assay. I want to use it for reporting all the things.

*If lego occasionally undid itself or decided it only wanted to stick to other bricks of the same colour or something. And if instead of using your hands to construct the lego it was necessary to direct a robot which only had a certain series of movements it could perform. But basically, circular lego.

Ian is now fucking the fiancee of a man who let him stay in his house while he was away. She has broken up with him (whilst he was in Minnesota visiting family).

Two marriages off!

Ai, no me gusta.

"It’s strange, coming back to a world of advertising when you’ve been away. I just visited Cuba, where there are no ads at all, unless you count the odd bit of graffiti proclaiming “Socialism or death”."

Christian and Roxanne broke up. Roxanne has almost immediately moved on to someone else. Christian is on the pull again. He is like a very simple animal.

I am full of all the visceral laughter of bitterness and schadenfreude.
